In a new low for Indian media - the British Broadcasting regulator has fined Arnab Goswami’s Republic Bharat Hindi £20,000 for a debate on the channel because it contained hate speech. According to the Office of Communications, or OfCom, the show “Poochta Hai Bharat” on September 6, 2019, contained uncontextualized hate speech and that this content was potentially highly offensive.
Arnab's toxic news may be new for the UK - but in India he has been doing this for years with immunity granted from the highest offices. For the first nine months of the year #ArnabGoswami spent witch-hunting political opponents of the BJP Govt, the minority community & Bollywood stars. In the last three, Mumbai police seems to be extending the same courtesy to him...his dramatic arrest in a abetment to suicide case had sent shockwaves across the nation, his quick bail from the Supreme Court of India stunned even more because it came with sermons of 'personal liberty' being paramount (at a time when students / journalists / activists are being jailed without proper charges - or scope of bail)
Now comes this international embarrassment - where no court can save him.
