People tend to always focus on the Negative news because its more dramatic and interesting than the good. Why dont we just look at how things were 20 years back and how things are now? Our standard of living had grown exponentially and things are getting better by the day. Yet we only like criticising and comparing with other countries which is not fair at all.

I really don't understand how population growth leads to economic growth?? This makes no sense. There is a fixed money supply in the system of a particular country, more people in the fixed system just means more mouths to feed. I don't understand that point by Mr Ruchir. His point goes against my limited understanding of Economic Growth and prosperity. GDP /Capita will obviously remain low in the money supply system if the population keeps growing unnecessarily

Its simple as dat do good just like what is chinese president doin fr his country rn 👍 but just grant freedom here in india and if anyone questions u like opposition parties that promote protests through agendas just go ahead and kill them...kill everyone who stands in ur countries way 👍 kill all criminals and rule the constitution and rule the india like a dictator....but a heart of a patriot 👍 even if u find corrupt politicians in ur party kill them dont jail them... Thats how crime and corruption would be controlled👍 then be the most powerful person that control everything from nukes to econony👍 then throw everyone non-indian who hates india (there are atleast 10-15 lakh people)just put them in their country bangladesh, pak etc👍see within 3 yrs economy will boom coz nobody will question u so u can provide jobs and do good for army give foreign made jets till 2025 and then everything made in india... And stregthen our border and build like electro magnetic borders👍 and then build a small city about the size of delhi in rajasthan's desert... It would be an ai city👍or where there are desert in india 👍 then would build artificial islands in ocean indian ocean from there we would make jets and tanks and arms and the pollution would be much less since its not in the mainland india 👍 and some artifical islands would be a tourist destination 😙 boom boom u are almost a superpower and u have created a mini earth before 2060 👍💕 within india 👍 hurrah hurrah

disclaimer: not an economics student. 1) women joining labour force, i assume his reference is to more than physical labour... this is of course important area to be worked on, on the other hand women being recognised and supported in the roles they already fulfil could be a start. in this, hidden labour could be explicitly paid for- care givers, farmers- yes there are many women farmers who aren't counted, and those doing physical labour like mandating minimum wages for domestic workers, medical support, access to better police and social services, education. women's activity needs to be done by someone, and women do it because men won't and it doesn't get paid for. 2) couldn't understand whether he wants more population growth or less. once again, strengthening the education systems, encouraging self employment in new economy, working out tax structures to help small businesses could be a start in developing the population that is of active age. adding to world population is definitely straining on sparse resources, including the environment. 3) reducing wealth inequity, starting from raising the bottom line could be a goal, per capita is low and it is misleading as a statistic, not showing how low it actually gets for how many people. yes, inflation under control is needed, but moving out of poverty has been shown as so fragile by the lockdown. a less severe one at the beginning would have resulted in lesser deaths on the way, but no safety net for after reaching home ever existed.

Firstly thanks a ton for the work that you do... really appreciate it. Request you to check this out. I read the following reddit post about how the Australian govt. gives a breakdown of expenditure of the tax paid by the individual, and was really impressed and checked out that it was indeed true. We really need such transparency in the expenses of taxes and communication of the same to every individual to raise the level of awareness and involvement of people in making/shaping of policies as well as laws. Indian VCs are nowhere near understanding innovation. Look at the life science sector. The cost of manufacturing and doing clinical trials in India is the lowest, but we have only done generics. The western VC firms have a huge due diligence team with sector expertise and try very hard to understand the science behind each technology.

India is on the bottom of the list... Reasons are... mainly Corruption/Cheating/Tax Terrorism/Bureaucracy/Blackmail..and so forth.. Contemtuous of socialism as the world has seen multiple failures at the hands of socialist governments, communist governments also identify them as the same. The weak point of capitalism, among others, is that when you have rich richer, the distribution of profit that a nation receives becomes corrupted or biased. A socialist democracy is the way to go.

Mr. Sharma hates 'armchair economists'. That's fine. But he sounds more like an investor & funds manager whose only goal is making business easy and less like an economist. What is feasible in a small country like Vietnam or Singapore may not be feasible for a diverse country like India, has anyone given that a thought? Of course we can go the Chinese way and discard democracy...

Of all the economists I heard over the months (Santosh Mehrotra, Abhijit Banerjee, Raghuram Rajan) this is the only guy, who thinks putting money in people's hands does NOT help the economy. I will have to be blunt here: You don't even ask basic questions Akash! Why intra-regional trade matters? Is it that companies in Vietnam are exporting mostly to just South East Asian countries?! And why does it even matter especially in India's case, where we are surrounded by much smaller(economically) countries? The section on Geography had everything but Geography and Natural Resources in it!!

There is simple way to grow India's economy and solve unemployment problem. All you need to do is build ring road highway (just 2 lane highway where businesses can come up on both sides, not expressway kind) around 400 cities / towns of India. Assuming each city will have 100KM road, all we need to do is build 40,000 km of 2 lane on each side highway. These are not expressway, these are roads with signals and building can come up on both sides. In every town easily you will have massive boom with new things like Hotels, Schools, Colleges, Hospitals, Gyms, etc.... will open up. If you think 1 km of road, should easily generate employment for about 1000 people. So do the math - 40,000 x 1000 = 40 Million new jobs, which inturn will create multiplier.... Our focus should be domestic growth and consumption, not export driven growth only. Simple math - Simple Solution.

Don't agree with the point on population growth and per capita income, india and China are exceptions bcos of their very high population and so a direct comparision with a South Korea or Switzerland on per capita income is not very logical, China has done way better than Switzerland or South Korea but if you just look at per capita income China is probably one sixth of Switzerland and so such comparisons on population growth or per capita only work for countries with similar population and so for me China is a developed country even though per capita is way less than the developed western economies, similarly on working population even with a shrunk percentage we still hv a crores of working age people and these percentages can't be compared as is with say a country like japan bcos our population is just so high about 10 to 12 times that of all countries in the world barring China and US

People dancing about India's GDP being around 3 trillion do not understand that GDP per capita income is what matters not GDP and GDP per capita is below 3000$ (I believe its 2500$). India is a low income country. Avg GDP per capita income of the globe is around 11,000$ and we not even an average earning citizen of the world.... Per BC andh bhakto ko samjhaye kaun.

I even cried thinking INDIA is going to become like Africa or Pakistan .... But I realized it’s a beautiful butterfly after coming out of cocoon, unfortunately Our Indian brothers and sisters has already seen how much damage couple of wrong people as leader can do to our nation ... Modi has done extreme damage and caused extreme pain to our youth, our women, our farmers, to our small bussiness owners, to our mid level bussiness, our life, our future.... he did attacked pretty much in every angle But extreme pain gives us eXtreme courage. Let’s call this bottom and say enough is enough and start out fresh... And work hard to rebuild our nation.... yes soul of ur nation is demands for our contribution as we did hurt it real bad, now there is no other way it demands for its full glory, it’s asking for dreams of Nehru ji that every tear in every eye should be wiped. Amazing talk, but I wish you brought on speakers who are a little less classical in their economics (Because he is an investor I guess). He keeps talking about printing money whenever you bring up necessary stimulus to our suffering poor. What about taxation. He admitted that our inequality is far less equitable than even China. And with no reason - China is producing top quality products for the world with much less inequality, its not like our richest are renowned for some globally successful products. Its incredible that there is no talk of high marginal taxation in a country with this much inequality and poverty.
